As Lab Manager Michelle Armstrong has the responsibility of ensuring that the laboratory runs smoothly and efficiently. She trains new personnel, supervises the daily activities of the lab’s technical staff and has several administrative duties, including purchasing, record keeping and budget management for the laboratory. She also serves on the VEHS Chemical Safety Committee. Her previous experience includes culturing cells, chromatographic purification of proteins, and characterizing the PLD signaling pathway. Currently, Michelle is focused on analyzing macrophage and astrocyte lipid extracts by mass spectrometry to determine glycerophospholipid changes in response to activation of cell surface receptors. She is involved in two major lab projects: (1) the Alliance for Cellular Signaling and (2) GPCR activation of PLD. |
